In English

Residence Botkyrka is an international artist-in-residence program located in the intersection of art, architecture, urban planning and research. The program examines new forms of art in public space and supports projects by artists and architects that can be best implemented during a longer stay. Residence Botkyrka develops educational work in relation to art to facilitate greater local involvement.

The program is open for internationally active artists, architects and curators. The residence itself is located in Fittja with an apartment hosted by Botkyrkabyggen and a studio at the Multicultural Centre. Now that the Fittja area is being rebuilt for the first time in thirty years, Residence Botkyrka is exploring the role of art in this process of change. The first artist, Matthijs de Bruijne from The Netherlands, is coming to Fittja between June and August to work on a research-based and site-specific work.

The Swedish artists Lisa Torell and Henrik Andersson have been invited to work on temporary public artworks and workshops. They are all part of Fittja Open, which will begin on the 4th of September, with art and events in public spaces. Fittja Open is planned to be a reoccurring event, showcasing among other things temporary public artworks and seminars. Fittja Open wants to make it possible for artists to elaborate on what public art is and what it can be – hopefully it will also increase our understanding of shared public space.

Residence Botkyrka is made possibile with support from Stiftelsen Framtidens kultur and Kulturkontakt Nord.
