C.F. Adelcrantz

Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz (1716-1796) was first King Adolf Fredriks and then King Gustav III,s court architect. He was the domineering architect in Sweden during the later part of the 18th century. He was interested in theatre and is responsible for both the court theatre at Ulriksdal and the castle theatre at Drottningholm. In between he made China castle in 1763. As a kind of reward for these major accomplishments he became a baron. In the early 1770-ties he built Adolf Fredriks church that is situated at Sveavägen in Stockholm. In 1778 he built his most inspired manor building. It lies in Botkyrka and its name is Sturehov. It is very well preserved and is one of the country’s best examples of the manor architecture of the time. He dies of cancer in 1796 and the baronetcy dies with him because he was unmarried.
